One of the most important things to do with your personal loans is to take care of them, and with them your credit history. These two things, while seemingly intangible, can have an effect on every aspect of your life, and will make your financial future better or worse, accordingly. Understanding how to keep your personal loans in top shape is not difficult at all; as long as you are careful with your spending and rigorous about repayments, your loan health should last for years.

The number one way to keep your personal loans healthy is to keep them current. Whether you carry a balance of two dollars or two thousand, on time payments every month for at least the minimum amount due – and more if possible – will reflect well on your payment history and in turn, your credit report.

Another good way to keep your personal loans healthy is to check your credit score – and credit report – regularly. By knowing what should be on there and also what shouldn't be, you can find trouble spots before they start. This is also a very good way to keep tabs on your identity should it have ever become compromised by theft or accident.

A final way to keep your personal loans healthy is by taking a good look at what you have. Like many things in life, quality rather than quantity is how you should look at your loans. If it's possible to pay off a few higher interest loans quickly and lower interest slower, do so. The amount paid overall will drop and you'll have fewer bills to worry about, as well!

Keeping your personal loans healthy is a key to your overall financial health. Knowing what to look for and what to do if there are any problems that occur is a good step toward overall financial health.

After doing my taxes, I discovered that I owed again this year. I earn a salary of $90,000, I am single, and I do not own a home. Based on this, my deductions are limited. I contribute 15% of my salary to my 401(k), and I plan on updating that to18% this year and possibly trying to contribute the max by the end of the year. I have been contributing $400 a month to a Roth IRA, and I am happy with the results. However, given my tax situation, I am considering ending my contribution to the Roth and funding a regular IRA instead. Is this a good move? MM, Greenville, SC

Kudos to you for being on top of your retirement savings at a time when so many arent. The maximum 401(k) contribution...

We usually think of relationships as being with people we know socially or work with closely.

Socially we choose to mix with people that are similar to ourselves and are generally like minded and who we enjoy.

However, work relationships are often more dynamic, difficult and varied and we need to rely on our communication and people skills to help us be effective with others.

Whether we like it or not we are always building impressions of and judging others based...
